Founded in 1917 by Willard M. Look in Whiting, Washington County, Downeast Maine, as A.M. Look Canning Company. The company pioneered hand-canning crab and lobster on the Maine coast. Michael Cote purchased and rebranded it as Bar Harbor Foods in 2003. SeaWatch International acquired it in 2016. Bar Harbor now operates Maine's last active cannery, producing chowders, clams, sardines, and smoked fish. It introduced the first MSC-certified soup in the United States in 2008.
