Carlos Albo Kay was teaching English, French, and mathematics in Santoña in 1869 when he decided to start salting anchovies on the side. The company he founded moved its main factory to Vigo in 1929 and has operated at industrial scale in Galicia ever since, now producing from Salvaterra de Miño. One of the oldest continuous conserva brands in Spain, currently owned by the Chinese group Shanghai Kaichuang.
