Founded in 1934 in Paris by Bruno and Suzanne Scheidt, German Jewish refugees who fled the rise of Nazism. The couple moved to New York in 1940 and began importing dried mushrooms from France, the first step in building what became one of the largest specialty food import companies in the United States. Now imports more than 1,200 products from over 40 countries, headquartered in New York City. The tinned fish range covers anchovies, sardines, mackerel, and smoked fish sourced from producers across Europe and North Africa.
