Established in 1911 in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture as the Tamura Steamship Fishery Company, Nissui (short for Nippon Suisan) is one of Japan's oldest and largest seafood companies. Starting with a single British-built trawler, it grew into a global fisheries and food processing operation. Today headquartered in Tokyo, Nissui produces a wide range of canned fish including mackerel, sardines, and Pacific saury under its own label, and owns the Gorton's brand in the United States.
