Founded in 1985 by mussel wholesaler José Luis Alfonso, Conservas de Cambados operates a cannery in Ribadumia, Pontevedra, where the Pontevedra river meets the Ría de Arousa, Galicia's largest estuary. The company is now led by Alfonso's children, Maite and Keko. Over 100 artisans, primarily women, hand-pack sardines, mussels, clams, razor clams, octopus, cuttlefish, and tuna using seafood sourced directly from the surrounding rias. Their packaging, drawn from the pattern of Galician fishing nets, is among the most recognizable in Spanish conservas.
